Real security for your PDF files

If you sell access to valuable PDF materials – books, tutorials, or reports – you know the main problem: common “readers” make it easy to download a file, forward it, or print it in one click. Standard security methods (blocking the right mouse button, hiding the download button, blocking access to the DevTools debugger) are bypassed by most users in a few minutes. The text is usually visible in plain text in the source code of the Html page.

Crypto PDF Viewer does not employ housewife protection techniques. It is not just a document player, it is a full-fledged cryptographic security system that eliminates direct user access to the original PDF file.

PDF content protection at pixel and code level

Unlike other plugins that simply download the entire PDF file to the browser, our Crypto PDF Viewer plugin takes a layered approach:

  • Server Rasterization: your PDF file is never transferred to the browser in its entirety. The server converts the pages into special rasterized fragments. A hacker can’t “pull” the PDF because it’s not physically in the browser’s memory.
  • Strong encryption: Each page fragment is encrypted with an individual key. Decryption happens on-the-fly right in the browser memory only for an authorized browsing session. Even if an attacker intercepts the data, he will only see “digital noise”. Individual plug-in license keys are used to create encryption keys. This makes it impossible to create a universal “lockpick” for sites where the plugin is installed to decrypt data.
  • Canvas rendering: The text is not displayed in the form of ordinary letters that can be selected and copied. It is “drawn” on a canvas (Canvas). For search engine robots and script stealers, the page looks completely blank, while the reader sees a clear image.
  • Session and token protection: Access to the viewer is hardwired to temporary tokens and sessions. Attempting to open a document using a direct link or passing it to another person will result in an access error.
  • Protection from developer tools: The plugin monitors attempts to tamper with the page code and blocks the ability to “dump” content through the browser console. It is common knowledge that the user’s browser is not an ideal place to protect content. It is also true that everything that is transferred to the client side can be restored and copied. But the plugin creates difficulties for hacker programmers in intercepting data inside the browser memory due to its architecture of information transfer.

For users who use Sharing-hosting, or do not have the ability to customize the configuration of their servers to handle graphics, a separate add-on, the Crypto PDF Viewer Browser render addon, has been created. It allows you to download and convert PDF files to encrypted graphics using only a browser. It is not an ideal option for uploading large files or a large number of them – such work is usually shifted to the server. But if you really need it, then the Broswer render addon is a solution to the problem of not being able to customize the server. The addon is installed as an additional plugin – the main Crypto PDF Viewer plugin is required for its operation.

License keys and updates

Upon purchase, a link to download the plugin and a license key with no expiration date are sent to the email address specified during order registration. The main plugin and addon have different license keys. Payment is one-time, without regular payments and subscriptions. The plugin is not placed in public repositories. Updates are performed normally from the site admin area, menu “Plugins”. Updates are available on the condition of an active license for the entire lifetime of the product (lifetime model).
